Role Purpose:
To underwrite and grow a profitable International Life Sciences portfolio in line with The Hartford Syndicate business plan across International/Lloyd’s, London, and UK markets. Provide underwriting advice, structure appropriate coverage, and secure business at a competitive premium.
Key Accountabilities:
Build and maintain an understanding of Life Sciences risks and exposures (e.g., drug manufacturing/API, clinical trials, medical devices/products, and contract research organisations).
Underwrite the renewal portfolio in line with appetite, authority, and performance targets.
Help develop and deliver the Life Sciences marketing strategy.
Use underwriting tools (including rating models and exposure assessments) to support risk selection and pricing decisions.
Identify, develop, and secure new business through London Market distribution channels and international broker networks.
Support the Head of International Environmental & Life Sciences in expanding Life Sciences underwriting activity across group offices and Lloyd’s operations.
Support travel and marketing activity to promote The Hartford brand to new and existing clients and brokers.
Meet group standards for risk analysis, risk selection, technical pricing, and renewal rate monitoring.
Ensure compliance with The Hartford best practices and all applicable Lloyd’s and local regulatory requirements.
Provide monthly management updates on portfolio performance against plans and budgets.
Monitor claims activity within the Life Sciences portfolio and coordinate with Claims as required to support appropriate outcomes.
Contribute to monthly, quarterly, and annual underwriting performance reporting, as required.
Qualifications & Capabilities:
ACII qualified (or working towards), and/or degree-level education.
Sound knowledge of general insurance and underlying principles.
Commitment to develop insurance and related knowledge through formal and informal learning.
Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers.
Ability to prioritise and organise workload effectively.
Strong attention to detail.
Strong teamworking skills, with the ability to work independently when required.
Flexibility and adaptability.
Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Experience identifying and implementing process improvements.
Experience:
Demonstrable experience of relevant underwriting or broking experience.
Demonstrated technical capability and understanding of Life Sciences liability and/or E&O exposures, or comparable complex liability/E&O classes.
Strong market-facing and broker relationship skills, including new business production.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to operate independently within a small team.
This role will be based in London, UK and you are required to have the necessary right to work details prior to application.
