The Small Business Finance organization is seeking a highly motivated and analytically strong Senior Financial Analyst (T08) to support financial reporting, planning, and decision making for one of The Hartford’s largest and most dynamic segments. The analyst will partner closely with colleagues across Small Business, FP&A, Actuarial, and Enterprise Finance to help deliver clear, actionable insights, improve forecasting accuracy, and support ongoing process and analytics enhancements. The role offers strong opportunities for learning, collaboration, and professional growth within a fast‑paced and supportive finance team.

We are looking for someone who brings curiosity, a willingness to learn, strong analytical fundamentals, and an interest in building influence through high‑quality analysis and effective communication.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting, KPIs & Insights

  • Produce accurate and timely reporting packages for Small Business (e.g., monthly business reviews, supporting exhibits, performance dashboards).

  • Develop clear, thoughtful commentary on results and trends in a way non-finance partners can understand.

  • Help drive improved reporting capabilities, including predictive and prescriptive analytics.

Financial Planning, Forecasting & Analysis

  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial cycles including Budget, Outlook, and long-term strategic plan.

  • Develop driver‑based forecasts and proactively identify emerging risks and opportunities.

  • Prepare variance analysis vs. Budget, Outlook, and Prior Year; synthesize insights for Finance and business leadership.

Business Partnership & Decision Support

  • Build strong relationships with Small Business partners, (underwriting, product, strategy, actuarial) providing clear financial guidance to influence decision‑making.

  • Deliver analytics and insights on growth, profitability, expenses, and operational performance.

  • Respond to ad‑hoc requests and support strategic initiatives across the segment.

  • Participate in special projects, including deep‑dive analyses, cost transformation, and investment cases.

Process Improvement & Automation

  • Identify opportunities to streamline recurring forecast, reporting, and analytical activities.

  • Help advance automation, including use of TM1, Python, Power BI, and emerging analytics tools, including the use of AI.

  • Contribute to modernization efforts aligned with enterprise data and reporting initiatives.

*This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office (Hartford, CT) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.

  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a proven ability to derive insights from complex data.

  •  Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and influence stakeholders at multiple levels.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.

Preferred

  • MBA, CPA or relevant advanced credential.

  • Knowledge of TM1, Python, Power BI, or other enterprise reporting tools.

  • Experience supporting P&C insurance or financial services.

  • Familiarity with automation, data visualization, and emerging technologies.

Success Profile

The ideal candidate is:

  • Analytical & Insight‑Driven: Looks beyond numbers to understand root causes and implications.

  • Curious & Improvement‑Oriented: Challenges the status quo and seeks smarter, simpler ways of working.

  • Collaborative & Influential: Builds trust, works cross‑functionally, and helps drive alignment.

  • Self‑Starter & Results‑Focused: Manages work independently and consistently delivers high‑quality output.
