The Hartford is seeking a Data Privacy Delivery Lead to manage the execution and continuous improvement of enterprise Data Privacy capabilities. This role translates established strategic direction, regulatory obligations, and business needs into well-defined backlogs, feasible technical requirements, delivery milestones, and high-quality solutions.

This is a hands-on product and delivery leadership role, not an enterprise strategy position or a dedicated developer or analyst role. The successful candidate will be accountable for determining what must be built, articulating how it should function, delegating work clearly, and critically evaluating whether the resulting deliverable meets its intended purpose. They must have enough technical depth to understand how data solutions are constructed, recognize platform constraints, assess detailed data requirements, and provide credible direction without depending on others to teach foundational data or technology concepts.

The ideal candidate can move comfortably between the forest and the trees. They can manage an integrated roadmap while examining whether individual fields, records, calculations, categories, and outputs are accurate, consistent, explainable, and usable. They will maintain a high standard for solutions delivered to attorneys, compliance professionals, business areas, application teams, and other users who may not have Data Privacy or technical expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Own delivery of assigned Data Privacy products and capabilities from intake and requirements definition through implementation, adoption, operational support, and enhancement.
  • Translate established strategic objectives, regulatory obligations, and stakeholder needs into prioritized product backlogs, delivery plans, milestones, acceptance criteria, and measurable outcomes.
  • Define clear, technically feasible requirements that developers, analysts, engineers, and vendor partners can execute without needing to reinterpret the business objective or fill material gaps.
  • Apply sufficient technical knowledge of data platforms, relational structures, views, queries, transformations, integrations, reporting, and AI-enabled solutions to evaluate implementation options, identify limitations, and guide sound design decisions.
  • Specify what data should be included, how each element should be defined and presented, which values are valid, how exceptions should be handled, and what logic is required to produce consistent and explainable results.
  • Establish data profiling expectations, business rules, classifications, taxonomies, naming conventions, validation criteria, and presentation standards that the delivery team must follow.
  • Review requirements documents, mappings, solution designs, prototypes, demonstrations, and completed work with a critical lens, identifying missing logic, unsupported assumptions, data quality concerns, usability barriers, and downstream impacts before release.
  • Challenge proposed solutions through detailed questions and evidence-based feedback, ensuring the completed product addresses the full business need rather than only the immediate technical request.
  • Direct the design of data structures, curated outputs, dashboards, reports, workflows, and agentic capabilities so that complex information is understandable and actionable for users who are not technical specialists or Privacy subject matter experts.
  • Lead work through discovery, refinement, development, testing, implementation, training, release, and transition to support while maintaining progress against committed deadlines.
  • Coordinate delivery across Privacy, Compliance, Legal, Data Governance, Technology, Security, business teams, and vendors, resolving dependencies and escalating decisions or blockers when appropriate.
  • Evaluate opportunities to reimagine processes and solutions through AI, automation, workflow redesign, and emerging technologies, accounting for feasibility, controls, maintainability, and user impact.
  • Establish quality measures, operational controls, monitoring, documentation, and support procedures that promote reliability, audit readiness, and sustainable ownership.
  • Maintain accountability for scope, decisions, risks, dependencies, delivery quality, stakeholder readiness, and the overall experience of the people receiving the solution.

Impact

  • Converts Data Privacy strategy and regulatory commitments into executable work and dependable outcomes.
  • Raises the quality of delivered products by identifying gaps before they reach production or end users.
  • Enables delivery resources to operate efficiently through precise requirements, defined standards, and timely decisions.
  • Reduces operational and compliance risk by embedding appropriate logic, validation, controls, and monitoring into solutions.
  • Makes complex privacy and data information accessible to business users through clear language, consistent categorization, and intuitive presentation.
  • Improves long-term maintainability by ensuring capabilities are documented, supportable, and built within known technology constraints.

Qualifications:

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in data product delivery, data engineering, data management, data governance, technology delivery, product ownership, privacy, compliance, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience converting established business or regulatory objectives into complete backlogs, detailed requirements, delivery milestones, and acceptance criteria.
  • Technical fluency across enterprise data environments, including relational databases, cloud data platforms, data warehouses, data models, views, SQL concepts, transformations, integrations, metadata, lineage, and reporting or analytics solutions.
  • Ability to explain how a data solution could be implemented in at least one relevant technology, assess whether a proposed approach is feasible, and identify technical limitations or dependencies that must be addressed in planning and design.
  • Experience defining field-level and record-level requirements, including source data, valid values, business definitions, transformation rules, classifications, exception handling, standardization, and expected outputs.
  • Working knowledge of data profiling and validation methods used to assess completeness, accuracy, consistency, uniqueness, usability, and conformance to established standards.
  • Proven ability to review mappings, functional and technical requirements, data designs, prototypes, dashboards, demonstrations, or similar deliverables and identify gaps, faulty assumptions, unclear logic, and quality concerns.
  • Ability to provide precise direction to developers, analysts, engineers, and technical partners without personally serving as the primary resource assigned to build or analyze each solution.
  • Experience shaping data outputs for non-technical audiences through plain-language definitions, understandable categories, consistent formatting, and business-relevant context.
  • Strong product and delivery management skills, including backlog ownership, prioritization, dependency management, risk management, release planning, and coordination of concurrent workstreams.
  • Ability to bridge conversations among attorneys, compliance professionals, business stakeholders, application teams, developers, analysts, and data engineers while preserving the accuracy of both the business need and technical solution.
  • Strong critical thinking, facilitation, written communication, decision-making, and organizational skills, with the confidence to challenge incomplete work and maintain a high quality bar.

Preferred

  • Experience serving as a Product Owner, Data Product Lead, Delivery Lead, Technical Business Lead, Data Engineer, Business Data Analyst, or comparable role.
  • Experience with Snowflake or a similar cloud data platform and Tableau or another enterprise reporting and visualization technology.
  • Experience supporting privacy, compliance, governance, audit, risk management, or regulatory programs.
  • Knowledge of data inventory, metadata management, lineage, classification, retention, data quality, monitoring, and control frameworks.
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled products, agentic solutions, workflow automation, low-code platforms, APIs, and modern cloud technology ecosystems.
  • Experience working with Agile teams, iterative delivery models, and vendor-managed solutions.
  • Insurance or other highly regulated industry experience.

Success Profile

The successful candidate is an execution-focused product and delivery leader who can turn prescribed direction into a complete, feasible, and well-managed body of work. They create enough structure and specificity that developers and analysts understand what to build, why it is needed, how success will be evaluated, and when it must be delivered. They do not need to personally write every query, create every view, conduct every analysis, or develop every solution. They do need sufficient technical fluency to understand how that work is performed, evaluate the implications of available technologies, and recognize when a requirement or proposed solution is incomplete or unlikely to work.  They combine an end-to-end view of the roadmap with a sharp eye for implementation detail. When reviewing a requirements document or product demonstration, they examine the logic, fields, valid values, exceptions, terminology, presentation, and user journey. They ask informed questions, uncover gaps, and elevate the deliverable before it reaches the final user. Success in this role is demonstrated by work that is delivered on time, meets a high standard of quality, operates sustainably, and can be understood and used confidently by people outside the Data Privacy team.
