Job Summary
The IT Resiliency Product Owner is responsible for defining, prioritizing, and driving the delivery of enterprise resiliency and recovery capabilities across The Hartford’s technology landscape. This role serves as the bridge between business objectives, technology teams, and resiliency strategy ensuring critical services can withstand, respond to, and rapidly recover from disruptive events including cyber incidents, infrastructure failures, and data center outages.
This role owns the resiliency product vision and roadmap, with a focus on disaster recovery (DR), cyber recovery (CR), resiliency, and AI/ automation at scale. The Product Owner partners with governance, engineering, cyber, risk, and business stakeholders to deliver capabilities that are measurable, testable, and audit-ready aligned with enterprise standards and regulatory expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Roadmap
- Define and own the enterprise resiliency product strategy, roadmap, and backlog aligned to recovery priorities and risk posture.
- Translate resiliency objectives (e.g., Foundation Services (Tier-0) readiness, RTC/RTO/RPO adherence, cyber recovery) into prioritized deliverables and measurable outcomes.
- Align product roadmap with enterprise transformation initiatives (cloud adoption, hybrid landscape, disaster recovery/ cyber resilience maturity).
Delivery Execution & Agile Product Ownership
- Act as Product Owner for resiliency platforms and capabilities (e.g., DR orchestration, recovery automation, IRE, validation frameworks).
- Manage and prioritize backlog, user stories, and acceptance criteria for governance and engineering.
- Partner with engineering leads to ensuring timely, high-quality delivery of features and enhancements.
- Drive sprint planning, backlog refinement, and product demos with clear success criteria.
Resiliency & Recovery Capabilities
- Lead development of enterprise capabilities including:
- Disaster Recovery and Cyber Recovery orchestration
- Automated recovery runbooks and validation frameworks
- Isolated Recovery Environment (IRE) capabilities
- Foundation Services (Tier-0) and critical application resiliency onboarding
- Ensure capabilities are designed for scalability, repeatability, and auditability (evidence-based validation).
Stakeholder Engagement & Governance
- Partner with Technology, Cybersecurity, Risk, Compliance, and Business stakeholders to define requirements and ensure alignment.
- Support the Governance team by coordinating resiliency standards, maintaining policies and procedures, tracking compliance requirements, and driving follow-up on identified gaps and action items.
- Provide executive-level reporting on product progress, risk posture, and resiliency maturity.
- Define and track OKRs (e.g., recovery success rates, automation coverage, validation completion, audit findings).
Innovation & Automation
- Drive adoption of automation, AI/GenAI, and analytics in resiliency and recovery processes.
- Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort and improve speed, consistency, and reliability of recovery execution.
- Enable self-service and productized recovery capabilities for application teams.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- 5–8+ years of experience in IT, with a focus on Product Ownership, Resiliency, Disaster Recovery (DR), Cyber Recovery (CR), or related domains.
- Proven experience operating as a Product Owner in an Agile environment (Scrum/Kanban), including backlog management and stakeholder alignment.
- Strong understanding of resiliency concepts:
- Disaster Recovery (DR), Business Continuity (BCP), Cyber Recovery
- RTO/RPO, failover/failback, recovery orchestration
- Demonstrated ability to translate business risk and requirements into technical capabilities.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical teams and executive stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with enterprise resiliency tools/platforms (e.g., Rally, ServiceNow, BCM tools, orchestration platforms).
- Experience supporting regulatory, audit, or compliance requirements in financial services.
- Familiarity with frameworks such as NIST CSF, ISO 22301, or similar resiliency standards.
- Experience with automation, scripting, or AI/GenAI-enabled workflows in operational environments.
- Certification(s) such as Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), AWS/Azure certifications, or DR/BCP certifications.
