The Hartford’s Corporate IT organization is seeking a highly motivated, detail‑oriented, and results‑driven Staff Software Engineer (Hybrid) to work on an Agile team supporting applications across Human Resources, Law, and Shared Services.

This role is focused on designing and delivering AI‑enabled and agentic AI solutions, including building intelligent applications, automation workflows, and AI‑driven integrations that support employee lifecycle processes, legal operations, compliance, and shared enterprise services.

The Staff Software Engineer has end‑to‑end responsibility for designing, building, and supporting solutions across multiple platforms and technologies. The primary focus of this role is to develop scalable, AI‑powered applications and integrations using cloud platforms (primarily AWS, with exposure to GCP). This includes applying AI and GenAI capabilities to improve efficiency, automate processes, and enable new business capabilities across HR and Law platforms.

This role requires hands‑on experience designing and implementing AI/GenAI solutions, including integrations, applied use cases, and agentic workflows.

Experience with .NET (C#) is preferred to support integration with existing applications and modernization efforts where needed.

This position works closely with product owners, business stakeholders, architects, and partner teams, and is accountable for delivering well‑architected, stable, performant, and secure solutions while continuing to modernize platforms through cloud, automation, and AI‑driven initiatives.

This role will play a key part in advancing the organization’s AI‑first engineering strategy by building and scaling real‑world AI solutions within enterprise platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and support end‑to‑end solutions across HR, Law, and Shared Services applications

  • Design and implement AI‑enabled and agentic AI application components, including automation workflows and decision‑support capabilities

  • Develop and integrate AI/GenAI use cases into existing applications to improve efficiency and enable new business functionality

  • Identify opportunities to apply AI and automation across HR and Law workflows and drive delivery of those use cases

  • Design and implement robust API‑based integrations and cloud‑native services, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability

  • Build and support application components and integrations within the broader application portfolio

  • Leverage cloud platforms (AWS primarily, with GCP exposure) to build scalable, AI‑driven applications and integrations

  • Contribute to application and integration architecture, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and long‑term scalability

  • Function as a technical subject matter expert across supported applications, technologies, and integrations

  • Support analytics and reporting needs, including datasets and Tableau‑based reporting where applicable

  • Build and implement CI/CD pipelines aligned with enterprise DevOps practices

  • Follow and promote software engineering best practices including version control, automated testing, and documentation

  • Troubleshoot and resolve application and performance issues, clearly communicating risks and mitigation plans

  • Collaborate closely with team members and partner teams to plan work, manage priorities, and drive outcomes

  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership, helping elevate engineering practices and AI adoption across the team

Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience designing, developing, and supporting software applications with end‑to‑end accountability

  • Hands‑on experience designing and implementing AI/GenAI solutions, including applied use cases, integrations, and automation workflows

  • Experience building applications using cloud platforms (primarily AWS, with exposure to GCP)

  • Strong experience designing and implementing API integrations and service‑based architectures

  • Solid understanding of relational databases and SQL

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps automation, and modern software engineering practices

  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum delivery methodologies

  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills

  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively in a fast‑paced team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with .NET (C#) for enterprise application integration and modernization

  • Experience building or integrating agentic AI or advanced automation workflows

  • Experience with AWS services such as Lambda, Glue, or similar cloud‑native tools

  • Experience with GCP services supporting AI or application workloads

  • Tableau or data analytics experience, including dashboards and data pipelines

  • Experience supporting applications in regulated environments with audit or compliance requirements

  • Experience applying AI to real‑world business use cases (HR, Legal, or enterprise operations preferred)

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week

Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
