The AVP, DAIO Strategy Insights is a senior leadership role responsible for advancing the strategy, goals, and long‑term direction of the Data, Analytics, AI, and Operations (DAIO) organization. Reporting to the VP, DAIO Strategy & Innovation, this leader plays a critical role in shaping how DAIO’s strategy is defined, measured, communicated, and executed across the enterprise.
This role serves as the strategic narrative and insights leader for DAIO, responsible for translating complex strategy into clear, compelling, and decision‑oriented materials for the Board of Directors, C‑suite, and senior leadership. The AVP will lead a team within the Strategy & Innovation office and partner closely with DAIO senior leaders to ensure strategic priorities are clearly articulated, aligned to enterprise goals, and driven to measurable outcomes.
This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with DAIO senior leadership to help shape DAIO strategy, goals, objectives, and priorities aligned to enterprise strategy.
- Translate long‑term strategic direction into actionable initiatives, roadmaps, and execution plans.
- Facilitate strategic planning sessions with executive leadership to define priorities, focus areas, and success measures.
- Lead and support structured strategic initiatives across DAIO to deliver measurable outcomes.
- Develop and define OKRs, KPIs, and scorecards aligned to DAIO and enterprise priorities.
- Bring visibility and measurement to goals, initiatives, and performance across DAIO.
- Design and run governance forums and executive reviews to track progress, risks, dependencies, and outcomes.
- Develop and maintain executive‑level reporting, including CEO‑level Monthly Operating Report materials.
- Create clear, compelling strategic narratives that effectively communicate DAIO’s transformational story.
- Develop high‑quality, executive‑ and board‑ready materials, including presentations, insights, and recommendations.
- Support and coordinate content for Board of Directors and senior executive meetings.
- Partner with DAIO Senior Leadership Team to ensure consistent, high‑quality messaging across executive deliverables.
- Conduct market, competitor, and industry analyses to inform strategic priorities and executive decision‑making.
- Synthesize external insights with internal performance data to shape strategic recommendations.
- Lead and develop a small team focused on strategy insights and execution.
- Partner closely with DAIO leaders and enterprise stakeholders to ensure alignment across functions and business units.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, helping navigate ambiguity and drive clarity.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Economics, Finance, Business, Engineering or Related Field. MBA in Strategy or Management Operations/Operational Excellence preferred.
- 16+ years of experience in corporate strategy, strategy execution, management consulting, transformation, communications, or related leadership roles.
- Proven experience supporting senior executives, including C‑suite and Board‑level interactions.
- Exceptional communication, storytelling, and presentation skills with the ability to influence at senior levels.
- Experience developing executive dashboards, scorecards, and C‑suite‑level reporting.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities with a data‑driven mindset.
- Experience leading complex, cross‑functional initiatives in large, matrixed organizations.
Preferred
- Experience in insurance, financial services, or similarly regulated industries.
- Deep understanding of strategic planning and execution frameworks (OKRs, KPIs, Hoshin Kanri, Balanced Scorecard, Agile).
- Strong financial acumen, including experience assessing ROI, benefits, and performance metrics.
Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
