IND Senior Engineer, Infrastructure

Position Overview 

The client’s Platform as a Service department is looking for an Infrastructure Engineer focused on Web and App Hosting Platforming to serve as an individual contributor on a diverse team with other IT Engineers, Analysts and Managers.  The engineer will help create best practices, define and implement standards, partner on the design and implementation of our Dev Ops eco system, automate common repetitive tasks, modernize enterprise java, and support our existing application environments.   

The engineer will work with both internal The Hartford employees and our vendor partners to launch and secure our newest Web and Application Hosting platforms in a hybrid cloud environment.  The Engineer will work with our analysts and IT Security team to update, document and apply secure baseline settings to our existing inventory and help to monitor and alert on our platforms.  The ideal candidate must be comfortable reporting to all levels of Management.  

Key Responsibilities 

• Build, configure, upgrade, and maintain software environments and application pipelines 

• Provide cloud, middleware and web server support 

• Review Enterprise Java hardening guidelines and determine impact/input for annual certification process 

• Research and analyze differences between the CIS/NIST and current baseline configuration  

• Determine and recommend packages to be included in the baseline configuration 

• Document engineering reasoning behind selected settings and recommend standards 

• Support and administer Kubernetes container platforms 

• Upgrade and modernize enterprise Java 

• Own and maintain software environment documentation 

• Identify, gather and leverage existing knowledge and documentation and use industry best practices to apply secure configuration baseline configurations across Web and App Hosting platforms. 

• Use enterprise tools to monitor and alert on applications and platforms 

• Function as an expert responsible for the overall health and performance of our operating environment 

• Work closely with application development teams to plan and perform application installations, deployments, enhancements, upgrades and environment modifications 

Required Skills & Experience:  

• 6+ years of experience with Java Applications, Web Servers or Automation 

• Extensive Java knowledge and experience with platforms like WebLogic, JBoss, Tomcat and WebSphere 

• Strong technical and communication skills (written and verbal) 

• Advanced knowledge of UNIX/LINUX and Windows platforms  

• Knowledge of Kubernetes and Openshift 

• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple assignments 

• 4-year degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or similar technical field  

Nice to Have  

• Advanced knowledge of ROSA in AWS 

• Understanding of relational databases such as MS SQL, Oracle or IBM DB2 

• Knowledge of IT security standards e.g. CIS, NIST  

• Knowledge of InfoSec principles
