Clerical Assistant

The Clerical Assistant position is a full-time, in-office role supporting multiple attorneys in a fast‑paced law office. This role is primarily responsible for providing administrative support to both Attorneys and Legal Assistants. The Clerical Assistant also serves as the office receptionist and is expected to communicate professionally with attorneys, administrative assistants, clients, business partners, courts, vendors, and opposing counsel in litigation matters. The ideal candidate will thrive in a high‑volume, paperless environment that is dynamic and rewarding.

Work Arrangements

  • This is a full-time, in-office position, requiring onsite presence five days per week at our Hunt Valley, MD office.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize and maintain office equipment; manage electronic files and work with large volumes of documents
  • Make copies and perform other administrative duties as assigned
  • Sort, open, stamp, scan, and associate incoming mail and faxes with electronic files; manage the mail receiving area
  • Process outgoing mail using appropriate equipment and maintain electronic postage printing
  • Prepare and assemble document packages, including scanning evidence
  • Assist with overflow work as needed, including locating, pulling, and distributing file materials and information
  • Maintain office files and complete printing and copying requests
  • Support subpoena entry processes and medical records requests
  • Calendar court appearances and related events; ensure proper use of form letters and templates
  • Communicate effectively and respond to attorney and legal assistant requests

Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Ability to manage multiple projects using strong time management skills and independent judgment in a high‑volume environment
  • Demonstrated efficiency, productivity, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills
  • Prior legal experience and basic knowledge of legal terminology and calendar management are a plus
  • Ability to work under strict deadlines, manage shifting priorities, and set appropriate priorities
  • Proven ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and diplomacy in written and verbal communications

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$46,222-$69,333
