At The Hartford, we’re seeking an AI Underwriting Specialist who is excited about AI technology, passionate about upgrading the future of underwriting experience, and deeply skilled in Global Specialty underwriting.
Reporting to the Head of AI Underwriting Practices for Global Specialty, you’ll be a core contributor to our multi-year roadmap, driving underwriting requirements and innovation while maintaining underwriting integrity. How you will help shape the future
Key Responsibilities:
Underwriting champion: Assist in developing AI-guided underwriting requirements from an Underwriting standpoint. This includes:
Collaborate with Business Transformation Leads and Agile teams to enable first-to-market underwriting technology solutions.
Create detailed business requirements, user stories and case mapping to guide the development and implementation of AI-driven underwriting tools.
Conduct thorough analysis and documentation of current manual underwriting processes to identify areas for AI integration and improvement.
Provide underwriting support to the product teams to ensure the successful deployment and adoption of AI underwriting solutions.
Assisting our technology teams to develop custom AI across lines (by documenting key underwriting differences) to achieve desirable outcomes. This is a highly detailed process that requires methodical step by step instructions and knowledge mapping to our underwriting guidelines. There is a focus on asking ‘why is this needed / not needed’ at every step. Explore the art of possible, thinking beyond current data sources.
Review AI outputs, providing detailed feedback.
The ability to work closely with BTLs, subject matter experts identified within lines of businesses to understand, in detail, their underwriting process & deviations per complexity.
Ability to prepare account files for AI systems to review. This includes creating highly detailed “perfect” risk evaluation documents.
Reimagining the underwriting assessment with support from the subject matter experts to improve the grounded truth to the AI models.
A willingness to stay close to the line of business and business units that we are studying to gain personal expertise.
What You Will Bring:

Underwriting Acumen: 5+ years of experience in Commercial P&C insurance Underwriting (Specialty lines preferred). Underwriting experience in Wholesale/Surplus Lines or Financial Lines is a strong plus.
Agile Mindset: Ability to work in an Agile environment and adapt quickly to change.
Analytical Strength: Strong problem-solving skills.
Communication Excellence: Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.
Feedback Culture: Willingness to give and receive feedback at all levels.

Location:
This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
