The Hartford is searching for a Software Engineer within the Personal Lines organization who will contribute to application development for the personal lines portfolio in a highly distributed, integrated, multi‑platform environment. This team is passionate for technology and strives to build well architected and innovative solutions for business. This is a software development role using latest SaaS technologies and a highly scalable platform. The team has adopted Scaled Agile development Framework (SAFe) and core DevOps engineering practices such as continuous integration, continuous deployment and behavior driven development in the cloud. This position is full-time and based in our Hartford OR Illinois OR Charlotte office.

Responsibilities:

  • Hands-On Coding: Perform hands-on coding, ensuring high standards of code quality, reliability, and adherence to application architecture standards

  • Communicate Effectively: Communicate effectively within the sprint team and across teams on proposed designs and solutions, while proactively identifying and communicating risks, mitigations, and technical issues in a collaborative manner.

  • Collaborate: Collaboratively work to support technical deliverables throughout the software development lifecycle, including contributing to estimates, technical designs, build, and implementation working with Tech Leads and other developers.

  • SAFe: Work on scaled agile development teams to understand business needs and transform complex requirements into innovative solutions.

  • Embrace Future Technologies: Independently pick up and own innovation initiatives, applying modern technologies to solve customer problems. Leverage GenAI (Artificial Intelligence) to implement solutions that improve speed and productivity.

Minimum Qualification:

  • 3+ years of hands-on software development experience using any modern programming language such as Java, C#, C++, Python or JavaScript.

  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of Object-Oriented design, Java or .NET frameworks, front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, JSON, Angular/React), XML technologies knowledge (SAX, DOM and XSLT), SQL (SQL Server) and cloud platforms (preferably AWS). Must have strong experience as Developer of REST/SOAP API services.

  • DevOps Knowledge: Experience with continuous integration and DevOps tools (GitHub, Jenkins, Rally, SonarQube).

  • Proven experience working effectively with cross-functional teams independently.

  • Soft Skills: Excellent analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of P&C Insurance and low coding platforms (Duck Creek,) is a plus.

  • Tech Savvy: Passionate about staying current with technological trends, experimenting with modern technologies, and participating in internal tech communities.

  • Agile Practitioner: Experience with agile or scrum methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, XP, etc.)

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field preferred.

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week

Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$96,800 - $145,200
