Lead, Inspire, and Elevate a High‑Performing Legal Support Team

Come join a collaborative and mission‑driven management team supporting a large and dynamic legal organization! As the Legal Office Team Leader, you will play a pivotal role in the success of our California Workers’ Compensation Legal Offices, providing leadership and oversight to the hybrid remote support staff serving the Los Angeles and Central Valley territories.

This is an opportunity for a confident people leader who thrives at the intersection of operations, compliance, mentorship, and continuous improvement. You will ensure organizational and jurisdictional compliance, data accuracy, and high‑quality work product—while actively identifying opportunities to streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and strengthen team performance.

You’ll partner closely with attorneys, leadership, and the Law Office Administrator to ensure resources are aligned, quality assurance standards are met, and our legal teams are set up for success. Support the State Bar needs, CLE renewals and CLE certificates.

What You’ll Do

Lead & Develop People

  • Provide ongoing direction, coaching, and training for direct reports and new hires
  • Conduct monthly one‑on‑one meetings focused on performance, engagement, and professional development
  • Recognize high performance and proactively support team members who need coaching to meet standards
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team culture

Drive Operational Excellence

  • Oversee daily workflow, monitor workloads, and ensure timely review of incoming mail
  • Track and analyze support staff productivity and output
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and quality
  • Provide leadership in issue resolution and continuous improvement initiatives

Partner Across the Legal Organization

  • Collaborate with the Law Office Administrator on clerical operations, staffing needs, and production goals
  • Attend huddles with support staff, attorneys, and management
  • Participate in monthly regional meetings with Pacific leadership
  • Strengthen support staff partnerships with attorneys

Manage Systems, Compliance & Administration

  • Leverage Workday to approve payroll, PTO, employee profiles, meeting notes, and goals
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and off‑boarding of support staff
  • Review and approve expense reports in PeopleSoft
  • Approve Coupa supply orders and manage vendor‑related requests
  • Assist with monthly reporting and operational metrics
  • Support State Bar requirements, CLE renewals, and certificate tracking
  • Organize team events in partnership with the Law Office Administrator

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in a law firm or legal department environment
  • Prior people leadership or equivalent experience, including mentorship, project oversight, and training
  • Working knowledge of California Workers’ Compensation law and board systems
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and prioritization skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex information in coaching and training settings
  • Demonstrated thought leadership with the ability to influence positive outcomes
  • A collaborative, solutions‑oriented mindset with a positive outlook
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office and enterprise systems
  • College degree or equivalent professional experience
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Must reside in the Greater Los Angeles or surrounding area.

WHAT ELSE CAN YOU TELL ME? 

This position is a remote work position however, the selected candidate will travel into the office for occasional office needs within the Brea offices (approximately 1 time per month.)

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$84,800 - $127,200
