Leadership:

  • Lead a team of 3-4 Priority Business Underwriters

  • Extended Authority to approve pricing and rate guarantees

  • Interfaces with the sales force regarding underwriting issues and decisions including case appeals.

  • Help improve technical underwriting bench strength

  • Reinforce fundamental underwriting concepts throughout team

  • Inventory Management  

  • Actively drives and participates in project work and special assignments

Production:

  • Demonstrates a solid, consistent technical proficiency of underwriting guidelines and underlying risk management philosophy.

  • Establishes solid relationships with all internal and external business partners.

  • Balance 500+ activity & handle more complex jumbo cases

  • Primary focus will be 1,500 lives and above

  • Development of Needed picks to improve profitability on Legacy and PFML

  • Support the Priority Business Renewal Process

  • Seek out opportunities for process improvement

  • Keep UWs on task with timeline & Core coordination

  • Help develop and manage batch rating process (up to 499 lives)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

  • 5 years of Group Benefits underwriting experience

  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid relationships with all internal and external business partners.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills

  • An ability to think analytically about business problems, make recommendations and propose solutions.

  • High energy self-starter, who is resilient and has an entrepreneurial spirit.

  • Demonstration of solid time, organizational, and desk management skills

  • Goal-oriented and delivers outcomes.

  • Ability to challenge the status quo and compete to win.

  • Superior technical knowledge and sound decision-making and analytical skills

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$92,400 - $138,600
