Risk Analyst

Job Summary

The Risk Analyst will join a talented and high-performing ALM, Credit and Market Risk team that oversees credit and market risk assessment practices across The Hartford along with a wider set of risk governance practices of the Hartford Investment Management Company (HIMCO) subsidiary. The analyst will contribute to the identification, measurement, monitoring, and reporting of market risks affecting Hartford’s investment portfolios and financial positions. This role is crucial in supporting sound risk management practices and ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations. The analyst will be based in our Hartford, CT Home Office on a hybrid basis.

Job Responsibilities

* Assist with developing and implementing repeatable risk assessment practices for private real estate holdings, including identifying deteriorating trends on quarterly basis and quantifying potential downside impacts

* Conduct market research and highlight relevant trends and insights within the functional area. Promptly respond to evolving market conditions with assessment of potential portfolio impacts and communication of findings to risk managers.

* Develop, maintain, and enhance quantitative models and tools for market risk measurement within Hartford’s investment portfolio, including VaR models, risk positioning metrics, volatility and correlation metrics, and developing potential ad-hoc/thematic deterministic scenario analysis based on evolving market conditions

* Monitor and summarize market risk within Third Party Funds for presentation to investment team  

* Assist in the development and implementation of market risk limits and controls.

* Assist with monitoring and formalizing oversight on BlackRock (investment trading and risk management platform) analytics to ensure consistency across investment sectors

* Collaborate with investment team, risk reporting, and other risk functions to ensure a comprehensive understanding and management of market risks.

* Participate in ad-hoc projects related to market risk management initiatives and strategic objectives.

* Assist with automation of the measurement, aggregation, and communication of risks within the investment portfolio in a timely manner while leveraging artificial intelligence to aggregate and monitor risk metrics from investment memos.

Job Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field. Master's degree or CFA/FRM/ASA certification preferred.

* 2+ years of experience in market risk management, quantitative analysis, or a related role within the financial services industry, preferably insurance.

* Strong understanding of financial markets, investment products, and various market risk factors (interest rate risk, equity risk, credit risk, etc.).

* Proficiency in statistical and quantitative modeling techniques, including VaR methodologies and stress testing.

* Advanced Excel skills are required; experience with programming languages such as Python, R, or VBA for data analysis and modeling is a significant plus.

* Familiarity with market risk systems and databases (e.g., Bloomberg, BlackRock) is desirable.

* Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with meticulous attention to detail.

* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex risk concepts clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.

* Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

As a condition of your employment on the ALM, Credit and Market Risk team, you will be required to affirm to HIMCO’s Code of Ethics and understand that you will be required to comply with the disclosure of accounts, holdings and pre-clearance of trades for the accounts of you and your household family members as more fully described in the Code of Ethics Key Points. If you will be deemed to be a “Covered Associate” under HIMCO’s Pay to Play Policy, you will also need to disclose all political contributions that you have given within the past 2 calendar years.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$81,600 - $122,400
