The Snowflake Technical Lead and Product Owner is a hands-on engineering and product lead role that provides technical leadership and mentoring for other engineers, and partners closely on solutions with Architecture, Principal Data Engineers (PDEs), Reliability Engineering (RE), Cloud Engineering, Security, and vendor teams to enable broader Snowflake capabilities, including supporting AI workloads and data products and ensuring platform capabilities continually improve and align with enterprise data strategies.

This role designs and automates the platform’s day-to-day operations, environments, CI/CD, observability, access, networking, and data movement so data engineering teams can ship governed, performant data products with confidence.

This role is accountable for defining and delivering the vision, roadmap, and value of The Hartford’s enterprise Snowflake data platform, combining strong technical expertise with modern product ownership to ensure the Snowflake environment is scalable, secure, reliable, cost efficient and easy to use for data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders.

This is a technical product role for an engineer with strong product instincts.  The role does not formally manage people and is not accountable for performance reviews.

This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement.  Candidates who live near one of our office locations  will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise. 

Responsibilities

Platform Execution & Lifecycle Management

  • Provide mentoring, technical leadership and oversight for the Snowflake admin team (11 members), creating a collaborative environment and ensuring high‑quality delivery and alignment to the platform roadmap.
  • Lead platform rollout and adoption.
  • Evaluate new Snowflake features and enhancements.
  • Coordinate cross‑platform integrations, proofs of concept (PoCs), migration, and modernization initiatives (e.g. Cortex, hybrid tables, etc.).
  • Oversee Snowflake object administration activities (warehouses, databases, schemas, stages, roles) across the enterprise.
  • Partner with enterprise technology teams, including security, governance, audit, infrastructure, ensuring secure, governed access to the platform.
  • Set standards and guidelines related to engineering patterns, conventions and governance.
  • Support software as a service (SaaS) upgrade preparation and ensure clear communication to users.
  • Provide platform subject matter expertise (SME) guidance to engineering and RE teams.
  • Partner with enterprise AI teams to enable Cortex feature engineering at scale.

Reliability Engineering

Perform and/or partner with RE teams on the following activities:

  • Operational Stability: Incident, problem, availability management, disaster recovery (DR), cyber, patching, technical currency.
  • Automation and Delivery: Infrastructure as code (IaC), Continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD), automation, Terraform/GitHub actions (GHA) pipelines, observability dashboards, alerts, logging.
  • Compliance and Security: Vulnerability management, secrets, certificates, governance.

Product Ownership & Roadmap

  • Develop and maintain the Snowflake platform roadmap aligned to enterprise priorities.
  • Prioritize features, enhancements and technical requirements based on business value.
  • Manage platform intake, backlog grooming, and iteration planning.

User Enablement & Experience

  • Own user onboarding, documentation, training, and platform communications.
  • Lead the Snowflake user Community of Practice and drive platform best practices.
  • Partner with users to resolve usage challenges and support platform self‑service.
  • Manage the ServiceNow (MTE) service catalog for Snowflake offerings.

Vendor & Partner Management

  • Function as primary contact for Snowflake account and support teams.
  • Collaborate on contracts, licensing, quarterly business reviews (QBRs), and roadmap alignment.
  • Submit and track platform enhancement requests.

FinOps & Reporting

  • Deliver Snowflake platform usage, spend, and optimization reporting.
  • Recommend warehouse utilization and idle time changes to reduce cost without impairing performance SLAs.
  • Partner with vendor and internal teams to implement recommendations that optimize platform cost and performance.

Qualifications

Required

  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.

  • 5–7 years of engineering experience with modern data platforms.
  • 3+ years of experience with day-to-day operation of a large-scale Snowflake implementation supporting development teams.
  • Strong understanding of Snowflake architecture, performance concepts, role-based access control (RBAC), and data pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of security, resiliency, DevOps, complex/large-scale data pipelines, observability, and related automation.
  • AI experience, specifically Snowflake Cortex and overall understanding of how Snowflake supports AI, agentic solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a roadmap, prioritize work, and collaborate with engineering teams.
  • Experience supporting user communities, documentation, training, and enablement.
  • Ability to communicate and influence technology across technical and business teams.
  • Strategic thinking and ability to simplify complex topics.

Preferred

  • SnowPro Core or SnowPro Advanced certification.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Google, Azure) and DevOps tooling (Terraform, GitHub).
  • Exposure to regulated industry environments (insurance, financial services).

  • Clear, actionable Snowflake platform roadmap established.
  • Consistent and scalable user onboarding, documentation, and support model.
  • Improved platform usability, performance, and cost efficiency.
  • Strong operating model between Product Management and Reliability Engineering.
  • Delivering high‑impact platform capabilities aligned with enterprise data strategy.
  • Positive user satisfaction feedback across engineering and business communities.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$137,200 - $205,800
