The Virtual Auto Service Representative is accountable for the timely completion of assigned auto damage appraisals. They will operate within the company claim standards to provide an economical resolution for repair estimates and at times work to establish Total Loss values. Our candidate shall triage and utilize multiple estimating channel options in the assigned territory assuring that quality standards and customer service requirements are met. They will work on estimating vehicle damage and the assessment of repair costs. Additional accountabilities include ascertaining indemnity/expense exposure and providing outstanding customer service. This role consists of virtual estimating however flexibility is needed for traveling to attend meetings and possibly assist with weather related claims (CAT claims).

Work Arrangement

This role may be Hybrid or Remote:

  • Candidates located near an office location (Hartford, CT; San Antonio, TX; Lake Mary, FL; Scottsdale, AZ) are expected to work onsite three days per week (Tuesday–Thursday).

  • Candidates not located near an office will work remotely, with the expectation of occasional in‑office attendance as business needs arise.

Training & Start Date

  • Start Date: March 30, 2026

  • Training Program: Completion of a 6–8-week New Hire Onboarding Program is required.

  • In‑Person Training: The program includes an approximately one‑week in‑person learning lab in Hartford, CT, scheduled for mid‑April.

  • Work Hours: The selected candidate may reside anywhere within the United States; however, the individual must work core business hours aligned with the assigned territory.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversight and timely completion of accurate damage appraisals

  • Provide economical means of repair or replacement as needed while helping to establish total loss values and handling complaints

  • Triage and utilize multiple estimating channel options quickly and efficiently

  • Provide re-inspection of repaired vehicles and assessment of repair cost

  • Properly assess the indemnity and expense exposures

  • Provide outstanding customer service while operating within a team environment and maintaining a continuous focus on self-development

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience preferred.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of auto estimating experience required.

  • Prior experience in automotive damage estimating, supported by strong customer service skills, is preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with coworkers and customers

  • Operate with integrity

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently

  • State appraiser licenses might be required for the assigned territory. Candidate must be willing to obtain any needed license upon hire

  • Flexibility to travel as needed. This could be for meetings or weather-related claims (CAT Duty)

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$62,480 - $93,720
