Director Software Engineering - IE06FE

We’re determined to make a difference and are proud to be an insurance company that goes well beyond coverages and policies. Working here means having every opportunity to achieve your goals – and to help others accomplish theirs, too. Join our team as we help shape the future.

We are seeking a visionary and execution-focused Director of Software Engineering to lead the evolution of our Duck Creek platforms and accelerate GenAI-enabled engineering across Personal Lines. You will set the technical strategy for Duck Creek (Policy, Billing, Rating) and drive modernization, cloud optimization, and integration with enterprise systems—while embedding AI tools and practices that materially improve developer productivity, quality, and time-to-value.

This leader is equally comfortable coding, architecting, and driving strategic initiatives, and can translate platform roadmaps into reliable, secure, and scalable delivery on AWS.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead Duck Creek engineering: Build and scale high-performing teams across Policy, Billing, and Rating; establish configuration and extension standards; champion reusability, performance, and operability across release trains.

• Own the Duck Creek roadmap: Define upgrade strategies, cloud optimization patterns, regression/compatibility approaches, and golden-path templates; reduce technical debt while improving resiliency and scalability.

• Modernize and integrate: Oversee event-driven and API-first integrations between Duck Creek and upstream/downstream platforms. Ensure latency, throughput, and reliability expectations are met.

• Embed GenAI in the SDLC: Institutionalize use of GitHub Copilot and complementary LLM tooling for code generation, unit/integration test scaffolding, documentation, defect triage, and knowledge retrieval.

• AI governance & safety: Partner with Security, Risk, and Architecture to implement responsible AI guardrails.

• Delivery excellence: Ensure scope, schedule, and budget commitments are met. Drive accurate estimation, manage dependencies, and proactively escalate risks.

• Operate what we build: In partnership with RE/Ops, instrument and monitor Duck Creek platform health and reliability.

• Partner for outcomes: Collaborate with Product Owners and business leaders to validate value hypotheses, prioritize backlogs, and align with portfolio objectives.

• Continuously improve: Enforce SDLC, DevSecOps, and Agile best practices; champion automation and non-functional excellence.

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week

Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
